NRL Telstra Premiership Round 8 - Bulldogs v Manly
Friday 27 April 2012

IT’S the most anticipated NRL game of the season so far – the Des Hasler-coached Canterbury Bulldogs against the club he steered to dual premierships, Manly, in a Round 8 blockbuster on Friday 27 April.

A massive crowd is expected to witness the battle between master coach Hasler and his former apprentice and incumbent Manly coach, Geoff Toovey.

Both sides head into the clash off the back of a loss, with the Dogs going down to premiership front-runners the Storm 12-6 in Melbourne and the Sea Eagles facing a 26-14 thrashing by the Titans on their beloved Brookie Oval.

Many at Manly feel hard done by after Hasler signed with the Bulldogs with a year remaining on his contract. Hasler took a bulk of their support staff and constant speculation that key playmaker Kieran Foran will join him at Belmore only adds fuel to the fire.

Both sides possess big, mobile forward packs who will punch plenty of holes in the defensive line. However, it is the young halves who will need to take advantage of the platform they lay.

It has been built-up as the grudge match of 2012. Both teams, although particularly Manly, have endured an off-season full of scrutiny and uncertainty. One thing we can be certain of: there is sure to be fireworks when these two proud clubs, who share 8 premierships each, clash.
