Toyota AFL Premiership Round 20 - Swans v Collingwood
Saturday 11 August 2012
It’s one of the must-see games on the AFL calendar - the Sydney Swans at home against AFL superclub Collingwood – in a top of the table blockbuster at ANZ Stadium.
The Swans have glided into top spot on the AFL ladder, leaving all rivals in their wake - including the Magpies who are within striking distance in equal second.
The Bloods’ are enjoying a breakout 2012 campaign - highlighted by inspirational captain Adam Goodes breaking the club record for most appearances – their rivalry with Collingwood will reignite in a Round 20 (11 August) showdown which could double as a grand final prelude.
The Magpies, reeling from their 2011 grand final defeat to Geelong look to have a steely resolve as they attempt to go one better this time around.
The Magpies have an arsenal of attacking weaponry at their disposal with the likes of Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury primed to maintain the Magpies’ recent dominance over the Swans.
Sydney will be out to snap a 10 game losing streak against Collingwood – the Swans haven’t tasted victory against the Magpies since their 2005 premiership-winning season.
This will be arguably their best chance to do so with the Swans boasting the best defence in the league, conceding only 69 points per game and are the competition's second-highest tacklers, averaging 72 per game.
The Swans went down narrowly in last year’s fixture after a stirring second half fight-back.
Victory over premiership contenders Fremantle, Hawthorn, West Coast and reigning premiers Geelong, have left the Swans full of confidence heading into this unmissable clash as they look to hit the finals full of running for another tilt at premiership glory in 2012.
